    We are hiring an Assistant Controller for our client in San Francisco. 

    __Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for managing major areas of the organization’s Collectively Bargained Benefits Plans’ accounting operations, procedures, controls, and reporting; maintaining a high standard of performance; assuring conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; managing complex accounting including significant cash movements, and preparation of timely and comprehensive reports including, audits, financial statements and analyses for numerous entities.The Assistant Controller oversees four employees in a department of 16 staff members.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Responsible for financial reporting and operations for multiple entities, primarily ongoing processing and reporting of all accounting transactions of ERISA Benefit Plans and assigned general ledgers.

    • Responsible for banking functions and relationships for all PMA entities including custodial accounts, approving transfers and disbursements and weekly payroll funding.

    • Provide operational monitoring and review of transactions and accounting procedures, including strong controls and documentation for complex operations, and timely reporting for numerous entities.

    • Monitor the investment holdings of the jointly trusteed ERISA benefit plans.

    • Manage staff in development including: establishing goals, monitoring performance, providing regular feedback and training as needed.

    • Manage staff in development and maintenance of controls and other policies and procedures, regulatory interpretations and ongoing evaluation of operational effectiveness.

    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, agency rules and regulations and generally accepted accounting principles, provide training as necessary to ensure best practices.

    • Manage audits, working directly with auditors and coordinating with staff.

    • Attend Finance Committee and Audit Committee meetings, and present financial reports to Committees.

    • Coordinate the development and maintenance of electronic systems and procedures.

    • Manage the filing of Federal, State, and local tax and DOL regulatory returns for multiple entities, assuring compliance with applicable requirements.

    • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The position supervises one management level and three staff employees in a department of 16 staff members.The Assistant Controller is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of employee performance and function deliverables.

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: To perform the job successfully, the candidate must be knowledgeable and capable in the following areas:

    • Experience in planning, leading, supervising staff and managing multiple demands and deadlines while prioritizing workloads.

    • Ability to manage precision in details while maintaining focus on bigger picture strategy and planning.

    • Excellent communication skills in relating information, explaining complex issues, and preparing clear and complete analyses, proposals, reports and other written materials.

    • Convey a professional and positive attitude with action/results orientation to problem solving.

    • Proven ability and experience in exercising good judgment and discretion in handling confidential materials and matters.

    • Possess excellent communication, written, oral, interpersonal and teamwork skills, communicate constructively and confidently, listen openly, and collaborate well with staff and others in different groups.

    • Highly organized and efficient workstyle with ability to maintain accurate records, meet critical deadlines; research and analyze complex problems through evaluation of varied information and data in either statistical or narrative form.

    • Capability for quickly establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and, fostering collaborative engagement with diverse individuals and groups.

    • Extensive and excellent computer skills and experience using enterprise systems such as Oracle and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other reporting tools. Ability to use software tools to present data clearly and concisely.

    • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills portfolio with achievement in building cohesive high-performance teams able to innovate and leverage collective capabilities.

    • Display flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment and ability to adapt to changes in work environment, work assignments, and/or changes in priorities.

    • Sustain productivity in a fast-paced environment.

    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers, staff, and management and outside business contacts.

    • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university with emphasis in accounting/financial analysis

    • Active CPA credential.

    • Ten years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience, including at least three (3) years of supervisory and management experience. Experienced in the preparation of complex financial statements, including consolidations and ERISA benefit plans.
