Labor One Staffing is hiring a Shipyard Safety Inspector in San Diego.
Job Summary
- Inspects equipment, tools, and working conditions to ensure safety of workers
- Inspects safety belts, ladders, ropes, and tools and replaces those not meeting safety requirements
- Observes crews at work and reports violations in safety precautions
- Investigates accidents to determine causes and devises preventive measures
- May instruct workers in use of safety equipment and safe work methods
- Enforce safety rules and regulations
- Conducts vessel, building and grounds surveys on periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures
- Ensuring workers are provided with suitable protective equipment, such as eye goggles, ear protectors or appropriate types of gloves and clothing
- Keeping up to date with new legislation and health and safety standards
- Writing reports on results of inspections and investigations and completing detailed paperwork
- Providing training and educational support to employers and new/trainee employees
- Prepares various safety and mishap reports
- Maintain occupational health and safety training matrix
- Performs administrative and record-keeping functions in support of the safety organization for the company
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment- hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes and, when necessary, respirator
- Work independently to complete responsibilities
- Must have regular, reliable attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- OSHA 5400 (Occupational Safety & Health for the Maritime Industry)
- OSHA 521 (OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene)
- OSHA 2225 (Respiratory Protection)
- OSHA 3115 (Fall Protection)
- OSHA 3095 (Electrical Standards)
- Shipyard Competent Person is preferred
- Maritime trade experience preferred
