    Chanalytical Laboratories is an independent, third-party water testing lab in Gorham, Maine. We test well water and drinking water for Maine and New Hampshire families, home inspectors, and businesses.

    We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our team. You will run tests and procedures on water samples using a variety of instrumentation, follow all lab safety guidelines and procedures, and record results accurately. You will also perform basic maintenance and calibration on the systems you use every day, stock supplies as needed, and maintain a safe, clean working environment at all times. The ideal candidate has the proper laboratory certification, previous lab experience, and excellent attention to detail.

    Responsibilities

    Prepare and analyze water samples using standardized laboratory procedures and EPA / Standard Methods

    Run a variety of tests and procedures on samples using existing lab equipment, including ICP-MS and the Thermo Fisher Gallery

    Perform extractions and prepare samples for analysis

    Calibrate and maintain all equipment used daily, as needed

    Maintain excellent records of all results, and provide comprehensive reports on them to the necessary individual

    Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs

    Support our laboratory accreditation effort — including documentation, method records, and assessment preparation

    Maintain a clean, sterile work environment

    Additional tasks and duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Associate degree or higher in a science-related field (chemistry, biology, environmental science, or related)

    Knowledge of basic chemistry and math (including algebra)

    Previous lab experience desired — internship and academic lab experience will be considered

    Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping

    Familiarity with lab safety procedures

    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

    Preferred Qualifications

    Hands-on experience with ICP-MS, discrete analyzers, or comparable analytical instrumentation

    Experience with EPA and Standard Methods for water or wastewater analysis

    Familiarity with LIMS or other laboratory data management systems

    Working knowledge of state and federal drinking-water regulations

    Experience supporting laboratory accreditation (TNI/NELAP, ISO/IEC 17025, or a state certification program)

    Candidates Seeking More Than a Bench Role

    We will consider candidates with deeper experience for expanded, senior-level responsibility, including:

    Ownership of a quality management system and accreditation readiness, and serving as a point of contact for assessors

    Training, scheduling, and supervising lab staff and enforcing standard operating procedures

    Managing lab workflow, throughput, inventory, and instrument-maintenance programs

    Compensation

    $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
