Position Overview
CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform clinical laboratory testing at a federal metropolitan detention center in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. You will conduct hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, and microbiology testing to support clinical decision-making for the incarcerated patient population, maintaining CLIA compliance and quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing in hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, serology, and basic microbiology
- Collect, process, and analyze patient specimens following CLSI standards and chain-of-custody procedures
- Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, and point-of-care testing equipment
- Perform and document quality control testing, proficiency testing, and instrument calibrations
- Review and release laboratory results, flagging critical values for immediate provider notification
- Maintain laboratory supply inventory and coordinate specimen send-outs to reference laboratories
- Support infectious disease screening programs including TB, HIV, hepatitis, and STI testing
- Ensure CLIA, CAP, and BOP laboratory compliance standards are maintained
Required Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science
- ASCP certification (MLT or MLS) or equivalent national certification
- Current BLS certification
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to pass federal background investigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
- Bachelor degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MLS/MT preferred)
- Point-of-care testing coordinator experience
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $58,000 - $76,000 annually
