General Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director Women’s Services, is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating comprehensive, individualized lactation support services according to standards identified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. Provides consultation to the in-patient clinical staff for coordination and management of lactation. Serves as the clinical expert for development of staff and patient education programs, including orientation for Nursery, OB/GYN/L&D and Pediatrics.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides consultation to physicians, hospital staff and patients in all care settings as requested. Coordinates the patient’s management of breastfeeding with other disciplines, as needed.
Provides out-patient clinical management and support to breastfeeding mothers. Follows up with all breastfeeding patients discharged from the hospital.
Markets program to community through avenues identified in collaboration with Communications & Marketing department
Provides expertise based on research and standards in the management of lactation – acts as a clinical resource to staff for the inpatient populations.
Provides on-going staff education and assists in orientation of new staff.
Evaluates equipment and supplies for use by staff and patients.
Maintains program and patient data. Provides monthly status report to MCH Supervisor regarding program quality monitors, statistics, and status on goals.
Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area.
Performs similar or related duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
Formal Education
Bachelor’s Degree required. Major(s) required: Nursing or Health related field.
Work Experience
2 years to <3 years
Required Licenses and Certifications
State of Florida Registered Nurse (RN) active license
Board Certified Lactation Consultant
Basic Life Saving (BCLS) certification (or within probation period)
Advanced and/or Pediatric Life Saving (ACLS or PALS) certification or NRP, preferred
EKG competency, if applicable
