****Job Summary
The Landings Association is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Lagoon Maintenance Technician to support the care and maintenance of the community’s lagoon system. This position is responsible for inspecting lagoons, maintaining water quality, assisting with aquatic vegetation management, applying chemicals safely, operating equipment, and supporting overall lagoon health and storm readiness.
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, is comfortable working around water and wildlife, and takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning community environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect lagoons to monitor water quality, aquatic vegetation, storm readiness, and general maintenance needs.
- Assist with chemical, mechanical, and biological treatments to support lagoon health.
- Mix and apply chemicals according to manufacturer instructions, safety procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Operate boats, spray rigs, hand tools, and light maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform vegetation cutbacks around lagoons using equipment such as trimmers, chainsaws, pole saws, blowers, hedgers, chippers, and herbicide spray equipment.
- Identify and report issues related to water quality, aquatic vegetation, pests, aeration systems, valves, or other lagoon components.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good working order.
- Follow assigned work routes and complete daily tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain basic records related to inspections, treatments, equipment use, and maintenance activities.
- Work cooperatively with Public Works, Natural Resources, and other departments as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures and report accidents, incidents, or near-misses promptly.
- Assist during operational emergencies, severe weather events, or other urgent community needs as required.
Requirements
- Previous experience in lagoon maintenance, grounds maintenance, pesticide application, aquatic vegetation management, landscaping, public works, or a related field preferred.
- Georgia Pesticide License preferred or ability to obtain as required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
- Ability to safely operate boats, spray equipment, hand tools, and light maintenance equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment maintenance.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Reliable and predictable attendance.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain.
- Must be comfortable working around water, uneven ground, wildlife, chemicals, fumes, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, grip, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 60 pounds.
- Must be able to safely use required personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aquatic vegetation control or lagoon/stormwater maintenance.
- Experience applying herbicides, pesticides, or other treatment products.
- Experience operating boats, small engines, spray rigs, chainsaws, trimmers, or similar equipment.
- Familiarity with environmental safety practices and chemical handling procedures.
Work Schedule
Full-time position. Schedule may vary based on department needs, weather events, storm preparation, or emergency response requirements.
