SUMMARY: Provide engineering technical support during the development process of a new project or the maintenance of an existing product.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide engineering technical support in the following ways:
- Support of project teams up through final release of drawings and first production run.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of field issues.
- Assist with the investigation and implementation of significant cost reductions.
- Under close supervision, assist with executing the following activities during the product development process:
- Complete concept design.
- Obtain, build and test prototypes.
- Create preliminary drawings for the product segment assigned.
- Take responsibility of portion of design assigned.
- Participate in periodic review meetings with all functional groups.
- Participate in preproduction and design reviews.
- Support engineering leadership of project throughout the project duration.
- Provide sustaining engineering support to assigned product lines helping the on-going cost reduction/product improvement activities.
- Develop knowledge base of technical aspects of design or product components/systems.
- Support existing products with Engineering Documentation and day-to-day consultation to Operations, Marketing, Technical Services, etc.
- Assist with the development and execution of test protocols and plans and risk assessments based on current standards.
- Release of prints in a manner (accuracy, completeness, and timeliness) that supports the project timeline.
- Building and testing of prototypes.
- Ensure that all product development processes and activities conform to Invacare’s quality system.
- Complete all required training applicable to assigned position.
- Exhibit positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering (with a mechanics/device focus) from an ABET accredited institution.
- Training or experience with engineering drawing tools (SolidWorks preferred) and design documentation.
- Training or experience conducting and writing test or laboratory reports and procedures.
- Ability to contribute to a successful product design from concept development through final release keeping the project on schedule and meeting all functional requirements while working under close supervision.
- Ability to develop drawings sufficient to build prototypes and convey design concepts to other functional departments.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and Windows applications.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated teamwork skills.
- Exposure to FDA regulations for Design Controls and cGMPs preferred.
