B2B Sales Engineer

San Luis Obispo, CA

    Job Description

We have a unique software product for architects, landscape architects, and irrigation designers. One important aspect of our software is its connection to actual product specifications, including applicable performance data, size parameters, symbols, 3D representation, material and color options, and so on. The B2B Sales Engineer will oversee the entire arc of our relationship with these manufacturers.

This process begins with bringing manufacturers on board, which requires B2B sales acumen. Once they agree to become a supporting partner, the next step is to oversee the entry of their product catalog into our database, in a timely and accurate fashion. While we do have support staff for much of this, you will still be required to be hands-on, from data entry to creating AutoCAD symbols and SketchUp models. Once manufacturers are added to our system, you will be in charge of writing a newsletter announcement, and also communicating with the manufacturer periodically. Approximately 10 webinars a year are your responsibility, accomplished by reaching out to our supporting manufacturers to present educational and informative content. You are our primary interface to these manufacturers, so your communication savvy is key in keeping them happy, including sending quarterly newsletters to them and maintaining phone and email correspondence with them. Part of this as well is communicating their annual renewal fees, making it a personal experience so that we are not just blindly sending annual invoices. You will also be tasked with attending trade shows, where your role will be to continue cultivating personal relationships with other trade show exhibitors.

Overall, the job requires a great deal of self-motivation, attention to detail, and impeccable communication skills. Although it has a sales aspect, it is not a stereotypical sales position. Virtually all manufacturer leads have been requested by our users, or we have previously met at events. It is more an ability to express the value of this service, and then follow through and make sure that they feel they have received an incredible value. Quick thinking salesmanship skills will certainly come in handy to deal with the common refrain of "not in the budget".

The long term prospects of this position are notable. Currently, we have over 30 supporting manufacturers, which should easily be doubled in a few years. You will get to oversee the growth of your department to becoming a fundamental aspect of our company, and get involved in bringing on international manufacturers.

    Required skills:

While being able to operate AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Revit are certainly a bonus, that can also be taught. You should however be competent with basic computer and MS Office skills, and be able to type well-worded emails. Your people skills are key, in being friendly and professional on the phone and in person, with a firm grasp (and ideally experience) in the particulars of B2B sales.

COVID-19 considerations: All staff is currently working remotely and will not be going back to the office until management agrees it is safe.
