Job Overview
We are seeking a Land Management Technician to support habitat management, restoration projects, and land stewardship activities within Recreation Facilities.
This role involves hands-on fieldwork, including implementing land management plans, conducting habitat restoration, controlling invasive species, and supporting environmental conservation efforts. The Land Management Technician will collect and record field data, operate and maintain equipment, assist with public outreach initiatives, and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and partner organizations. The position requires a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, and a proactive, team-oriented approach. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- Experience in land management, environmental restoration, natural resources, or a related field
- Experience conducting habitat restoration activities such as invasive species control and native planting
- Experience with mechanical and/or chemical methods for vegetation management
- Experience collecting and recording environmental field data
- Experience operating and maintaining equipment such as chainsaws, mowers, and ATVs
- Experience supporting or coordinating contractors or field crews
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions
- Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to safely operate equipment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience Preferences
- Experience with prescribed burns or wildland fire operations
- Possession of Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain one
- Knowledge of Florida ecosystems, plant communities, and invasive species
- Experience with grant tracking, reporting, or compliance documentation
- Experience supporting public outreach or environmental education programs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and perform physical labor throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 lbs
- Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, and motorized equipment
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, or a related field
Education Preferences
- Additional certifications or training in land management, prescribed fire, or environmental restoration
- Florida Certified Burn Manager certification
