Covia is looking for a dynamic Construction Supervisor who will have a
positive impact on the Operations team at its Nephton, Ontario location.
As a Construction Supervisor, you will provide field construction
supervision and start-up assistance to Covia Project Engineers.
THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Working under the supervision of a Covia Project Engineer, provide
construction supervision, troubleshooting, and start-up assistance
- Provide weekly reports of activities to management.
- Function in a professional manner and in accordance with
departmental procedures.
- Continually evaluate personal work processes with continuous
improvement as the objective. Participate in departmental continuous
improvement teams in improving all engineering processes.
- Provide technical support through project assignments, training, or
other means to plants in support of their implementation of
continuous improvement systems. Provide technical training to plant
and other staff personnel on engineering subjects.
- Develop and maintain skills in the use of personal computers in
engineering work to improve accuracy, productivity, and
professionalism in all work products.
- Ensure that high standards of engineering design, materials, and
construction are maintained in all Covia work. Ensure that Covia
Engineering Standards are consistently and uniformly used.
- Interact with other corporate functions including, Environmental
Affairs, Safety and Health, Purchasing, and Sales in the conduct of
the engineering work.
- Update construction schedule.
- Report on any issues with the NSO construction project and keep
contractors in line with schedule.
- Evaluate any proposed extra costs to the project required by the
contractors
- Coordinate all contractor’s activities
- Mediate all contractor’s conflicts with plant issues and other
contractors
- Assure all workers are following the Covia safety procedures.
- Issue confined space permits, hot work permits, JSA evaluations and
other forms required on the job site.
- Keep plant management informed of all issues with construction and
schedule, including planning tie ins within existing plant.
- Act as Project Manager in the absence of the Project Manager
on site.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION IS FOR A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT TO LAST UP TO (2) YEARS.
THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5 years engineering, construction supervision or
equivalent experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in
Construction Management, Engineering or related field; or equivalent
combination of education and experience required.
- Proficient of local/regional codes and ordinances,
reading/interpreting construction documents and contracts
- Proven experience managing multiple projects and contractors in a
fast paced environment.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of employees and
management, and willingness to give assistance to co-workers in
other areas. Strong team player.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible is essential
- Experience in a union environment an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
