  • Responsibilities

    The RF Application Engineer‘s primary responsibility is to lead the architecture of Cellular IoT products within the overall communications platform. Working with the Communications HW Architecture group they are also responsible for the selection of the key HW components used in these devices. The role will involve major contribution to the overall system architecture for systems that utilize cellular devices, working with Systems and Solutions architecture teams. The CSE will be required to maintain detailed knowledge of the cellular technologies available in global markets and the trends of use within our markets.

    • Develop, drive and own the ESW architecture of Cellular device products
    • Work with the communications platform team, hardware engineering teams, and Global Procurement on the selection of major components used in cellular devices
    • Contribute to system level architecture and design and associated roadmaps for system level features
    • Build and maintain a catalog of the cellular technologies, at both a network and device level, available in the market globally.
    • Maintain a Global roadmap of Landis+Gyr cellular products
    • Work with Cellular carriers and their partners to understand their requirements, certification process, interfaces, limitations and regulatory framework, and how our products fit to their overall solution
    • Provide subject matter expertise internally to Product managers, Solution Architects, System Engineers and Customer Facing teams
    • Ability to work in diverse cross-functional development teams including resources both foreign and domestic

    • Network Design, equipment, scalability, principles of operation
    • International and Industry based standards
    • Additional Network Operator standards
    • Network Operator requirements, restrictions, and limitations for large scale M2M applications
    • All layers of common Communication stacks
    • Real world Performance measures and limitations
    • DFM/DFT strategies and methods for cellular devices in moderate volume production systems
    • Manage Energy Better: Consciously drive for continuous improvement in reusing, recycling or reducing waste
    • Maintain awareness of identified and potential health and safety, quality and environmental aspects within the workplace and their impact, including the reporting of any accidents/incidents/near misses or hazards
    • Act responsibly to meet the objectives/requirements at the appropriate level as described in the Health, Safety and Integrated Management Systems.

     

    Required Experience

    General Knowledge in modern Communications technologies:

    • Standard communication stacks including OSI model, TCP/IP, UDP
    • Information security practices, encryption algorithms, techniques
    • Common Wired, RF, and PLC Technologies

     

    An Engineering Software Development background preferably in Embedded environments in many of the following areas

    • Programming skills and experience in C, C++, Java, Python
    • Knowledge and experience with Embedded real time operating systems
    • Knowledge and experience with Linux Operating System

     

    General Knowledge and Experience in modern Software development Practises:

    • Agile Software Development

    • Continuous Integration and Automated testing

    • Latest Development tools and processes

    • BS (or equivalent) as minimum in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering

    • 5 plus years’ experience in Communications software/systems design, embedded software design in communications or Network design in the telecommunications industry

    • Design experience and knowledge of systems utilizing internet protocols

    • Engineering design work in Telecommunications industry is highly desirable

    • Multidimensional (diverse) or Cross functional product development experience is a plus
