The HR BUSINESS PARTNER provides directional guidance to Covia’s
managers and employees regarding Covia’s HR practices, policies,
strategy and philosophy while supporting and enabling effective business
and operational practices. This position will focus on delivering key
people initiatives, making recommendations regarding employee relations
concerns, managing the employee programs, and driving engagement.
THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Work with leaders to maintain a positive employee and labor
relations environment.
- Help leaders to identify, prioritize, and build organizational
capabilities, behaviors, structures, and processes.
- Work with the business and the corporate training function to
implement appropriate employee training and manage its delivery.
- Review key business performance targets and their related talent
implications with business leaders.
- Drive and coordinate the implementation of new and/or key
HR initiatives.
- Facilitate long-term initiatives aligned with the strategic agenda.
- Assist business unit leaders in providing employees with development
opportunities that align with current and future
performance standards.
- Provide HR counsel and support to employees and managers in
designated functions when appropriate. Provide expert advice and
coaching to employees when appropriate.
- Prepare HR related documentation and make recommendations to resolve
employee relations concerns.
- Understand and solicit employee opinions and anticipate their needs
and concerns.
- Review and benchmark the internal and external environment to
improve HR policies and initiatives.
- Identify and drive the sharing of best practices across functions to
facilitate continuous improvement.
- Manage specific projects as determined in the annual HR operational
plan and contribute to functional and cross-functional initiatives.
- When called upon to do so support HR activities as needed in the
areas of immigration, recruiting, employee relations, training,
compensation and labor relations.
THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; degree in HR management or related
field strongly preferred
- Must have 5+ years general HR experience
- Must possess significant knowledge of HR law, policies, processes
and procedures (FLSA, benefit review, investigations, etc.)
- 3+ years demonstrated Labor Relations experience is strongly
preferred
- Experience with coaching and consulting a senior leadership team
required
- Must have the flexibility to travel up to 25% when needed

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Clear, comprehensive understanding of the link between talent HR
initiatives and business operations
- Ability to develop clear, actionable steps in support of an overall
business and operations strategy
- Ability to identify new ways for HR to support the business and
operations strategy
- Ability to collect and synthesize large quantities of quantitative
and qualitative data
- Ability to recognize trends and develop recommendations based on
data analysis
- Ability to engage, inspire, and influence at all levels of the
organization
- Ability to develop and deliver relevant/effective training programs
to targeted audiences
- Must be an effective team player and networker
LOCATION:
The ideal candidate will be based in Charlotte, NC or surroundings areas
with close access to an airport.
