    LALDEF is a nonprofit that was founded in 2004 to serve the needs of the immigrant community in Mercer County. At our organization, we value diversity. LALDEF promotes the rights of all immigrants, with a focus on the Latin American community in the Mercer County area, facilitates access to health care, education and legal representation; advocates for the integration of immigrants; and fosters intercultural communication to strengthen our communities.

    LALDEF seeks an outstanding teammate join our team as the part-time Education Programs Administrative Assistant. This position will work closely with the Education Programs Coordinator to support with the administrative aspects of the five education programs offered at LALDEF, including Adult ESL, Basic Literacy, High School Equivalency Prep, Computer Literacy, and Citizenship Prep, in addition to other education-focused initiatives. This position is ideal for an individual with admin experience with an interest in education, working with immigrant students from diverse backgrounds, and collaborating with social impact organizations in Mercer County. This is a 10 hour per week part-time position.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Serve as point-of-contact for LALDEF clients in need of educational support by providing clients with in-house program information and outside resources as needed.
    • Oversee a large caseload of LALDEF clients participating in the various education programs, serving as their point-of-contact to the organization, and connecting them with other departments and LALDEF resources.
    • Manage current and new student outreach initiatives, registration periods for various programs, and new student recruitment by designing advertising materials and document creation.
    • Attend ESL, HSE, and Computer Literacy Workshop classes and other highlighted moments to support with in-class needs each semester (Tuesdays from 5:45-8:45, Wednesday from 10am-1pm, and Thursdays from 5:45-8:45 with occasional Saturdays needed; Note: Class days change each semester).
    • Take attendance and collect data points throughout the semesters.
    • Print and prepare lesson plan materials for classes.
    • Support with teacher recruitment, selection, and training for the various program teaching teams.
    • Support LALDEF's various initiatives and provide ongoing support to LALDEF teammates, as needed.

    Required Attributes:

    The ideal candidate should have experience in an administrative position or posses strong customer service experience who also possess the following personal attributes: flexibility, the ability to multitask, excellent communication, strong command of computer programs including Google Suite and Microsoft Office, interpersonal skills, organizational, and research skills. The candidate should think independently, but also utilize teamwork strategies when faced with difficult tasks.

    A High School diploma is required.

    Preferred Attributes:

    A Bachelor's degree is preferred.

    Position reports to the Executive Director.
