Job Title : Math Teacher, Special Education

POSITION PURPOSE:

The classroom teacher is responsible for the management of the classroom which includes developing and implementing the IEP’s of the students, following and modifying prescribed curricula, maintaining student data, and leading the team of people who work with the students. The teacher assigns work to the Paraeducator(s), Intervener(s) and/or 1:1's and shares with them pertinent information about the students. The teacher is responsible for the health and safety of children and for communicating with parents and others about the child’s progress.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops and implements Individualized Instruction Plan for each student based upon assessment of students’ strengths and needs. Develops classroom goals and objectives which reflect the IEP. Provides written lesson plans for coordinators’ approval on a weekly basis. Implements the Unique Curricula using age-appropriate activities and modify to suit individual goals, and provide specially designed instruction on an individual basis. Implements the PA Core Curriculum. Organizes collection of student data. Develops and/or implements discipline or behavior goals/plans for students. Completes report cards or progress reports as required. Communicates with parents/others about child’s progress.

Assigns duties to classroom Paraeducator(s), Intervener(s), 1:1's and instruct and support them in their roles. Works with Specialty Teachers including Therapists to develop programs for students and to assist in implementing the programs in the classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education in Visual Impairment preferred or Special Education.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• PA Teacher Certification must be current.

• Experience working with students with blindness/visual impairments and additional disabilities.

• Must be certified in First Aid and CPR/AED or willing to obtain this. A valid driver’s license is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
