If you have a background in customer service and a knack for detail, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. As a Settlement Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in our operations. You'll assist in investigating and negotiating medical claims, conducting thorough research and analysis of medical bills, and collaborating closely with attorneys to ensure our clients receive the maximum benefit and fair compensation for their damages. Additionally, you'll serve as a reliable backup to our receptionist, providing coverage during breaks, lunch, and occasional absences. Responsibilities: • Conduct legal research, when necessary, with guidance from attorneys and paralegals • Process client billing properly using daily time records with help from the accounting department • Help with creating a variety of litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents when necessary • Arrange travel, schedule meetings and appointments for the team, such as depositions, and coordinate with outside vendors for events • Handle office correspondence and administrative tasks such as responding to emails and phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and letting the team know about upcoming deadlines • Gathers, analyzes, researches, and negotiates medical bills, maintaining a comprehensive paper trail of all actions and communications. May collect additional medical records and bills as required • Prepares summaries of client bills and discusses them with clients • Educates clients on case progression and establishes appropriate expectations • Escalates issues to the Settlement Administrator and attorney when necessary • Prepares settlement statements and may meet with clients to disburse settlements • Greets clients, guests, attorneys, vendors, and employees, ensuring a positive and professional first impression on behalf of the firm • Answers incoming calls, screens callers, and directs calls accordingly • Records incoming calls in the appropriate software, following directions and scripts for information recording • Attends to the needs of clients, ensuring their comfort, offering beverages, and providing a welcoming environment • Maintains awareness of the daily calendar, office occupants, and scheduled appointments • Develops and maintains detailed records of hours spent on specific cases Qualifications: • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times • Experience with legal software, litigation case management, and docketing programs • Some college is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is required • Comfortable working with all Microsoft Office products • 1-2 years of prior experience in a law firm environment as a secretary or administrative assistant Compensation: $20 hourly
