We’re hiring a paralegal to assist our attorneys in drafting legal documents, managing court cases, and conducting legal research as needed. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY-LEVEL POSITION, AND CANDIDATES MUST HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN THE RELEVANT PRACTICE AREAS, ESPECIALLY IN CALIFORNIA PROBATE CASES. Responsibilities: Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings Organize our case filing systems to ensure all documents are properly sorted and easy to locate, and other administrative duties as needed Assist lawyers in preparing legal documentation, pleadings, and correspondence including correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues The main job duties will include: • Answer incoming calls and emails on questions regarding cases, as well as communicate with clients regarding the information needed for cases • Interact with financial institutions and insurance companies regarding assets for client cases • Complete financial and insurance documents regarding client cases • Manage probate cases, as well as other cases in probate court, including ensuring proper notice, publications, and court filings are completed • Draft petitions and other court documents for probate and trust administration court cases • Prepare documents relating to trust administration cases Other responsibilities will include: • Work with law firm staff to streamline and contribute to law firm operations • Assist attorneys and paralegals in drafting business documents, such as Operating Agreements, written consents, and stock/membership certificates • Draft and prepare estate planning documents • Prepare and file compliance paperwork regarding business entities (corporations, LLCs, etc.) Qualifications: Excellent organizational skills, and time-management skills At least 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting Candidates must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree preferred Strong oral and written communication skills Completion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program strongly preferred • Basic knowledge regarding financial account titling, as well as insurance policy and retirement account beneficiary designations • Must have an extremely high degree of attention to detail • Spanish fluency/proficiency is a plus (but not required) • 3+ years experience working under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm in Trusts and Estates, particularly managing probate and trust administration cases (preferably in the area of Business Law as well) Compensation: $50,000 + salary DOE
