  • Responsibilities

    The Alzheimer’s Unit Personal Care Attendant (PCA) will provide personal care services to meet the needs of the residents of the Alzheimer’s Residential Facility. PCAs directly serve frail elderly residents with cognitive and memory impairment in need of physical assistance and will perform several healthcare and program activities throughout the course of a workday. Duties include but are not limited to assist the resident with: Activities of Daily Living: Bathing, dressing, grooming, mouth care, toileting, transferring (bed/chair), walking, and eating. Facilitation of Groups: Arts and crafts, social activities and light exercise. Light housekeeping: Changing linen, laundry, cleaning and disinfecting.

    Required Skills

    1. Knowledge in basic computer use for documentation.

    2. Patience and professionalism when interacting with residents, visitors, families, or staff.

    3. Must possess good time management skills.

    4. Is dependable and is able to provide transportation.

    5. Ability to understand and follow specific verbal instructions.

    6. Ability to work with the elderly residents with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.

    7. Communication skill for behavioral management.

     

    Required Experience

    1. Must be at least 18 years old.

    2. High School diploma or GED equivalency.

    3. Basic understanding and ability to read and write English.

    4. Bilingual capacity (English/Spanish) preferred.

    5. CPR certification.

    6. One-year experience in the care of physically and/or mentally disabled elderly.

    7. Must complete Food Handlers training upon hire.

    8. Must complete Personal Care Attendant Competencies, Assisted Living and Dementia training requirements within 30 days of hire.
