Department Chair – Mathematics & Computer Science

Academic Career & Executive Search is pleased to assist Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in its search for Department Chair, Math & Computer Science.

The College of Arts and Sciences at Lawrence Technological University seeks a new Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS). The start date is preferred to be, January 3, 2024, but other dates can be considered. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Chair of MCS will be an integral and essential part of the college’s academic leadership team. LTU is amid a transformative change, moving towards R2 status and continuing to strengthen a strong research program in math and computer science. This position will also lead the newly created Ph.D. program in computer science slated to begin in the Fall of 2024. The Chair is a highly visible, well-supported role from top leadership while also enjoying a high priority, very well-supported administrative position, including the ability to move the program in a new direction as they see fit.

The Chair will work collaboratively and proactively with College and University leadership, faculty, staff, and students, partners with other academic units across campus, and with external stakeholders to advance the mission and goals of the department and college. The Chair will build upon the department and college’s legacy of excellence in teaching, research, and service. The candidate must be a leader with an exemplary record of teaching, research, service, and professional engagement, a strong, demonstrable commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, effective academic administration, and successful mentorship and professional development of faculty, staff, and students.

The ideal candidate is expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded, active research program in an area of expertise, teach graduate and undergraduate courses as needed, and serve the department, college, and the university in various capacities. The Chair is also expected to proactively stimulate research collaborations among MCS faculty and faculty across colleges.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Ph.D. in computer science, applied mathematics, or a closely related field.

· Tenurable at the time of hire for Associate or Full Professor level.

· Strong record of accomplishments in administration, teaching, research, and service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Although candidates within any subdiscipline of computer science and mathematics are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to candidates with expertise in computer science.

Today it offers more than 100 programs in five colleges, with a total enrollment of approximately 3,000 students, and employs more than 400 full- and part-time faculty. In 1950, associate programs were added to Lawrence Tech’s baccalaureate offerings. In 2011 competitive athletics returned to campus with the University’s entry into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. LTU now supports 26 varsity men's and women's teams in baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball – and a pep band, marching band, and dance team.
