POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) Technician is a hands-on clinical leader who supports high-acuity emergency medicine while fostering a culture of respect, collaboration, and psychological safety. This role partners closely with emergency doctors, specialists, technicians, and leadership to ensure exceptional patient care, smooth department flow, and a supportive team environment.
This working supervisory role blends advanced ECC technical expertise with mentorship, emotional intelligence, and operational coordination. The Lead ECC Technician models AVS’s Nonviolent Communication (NVC) principles by promoting clear observations, respectful dialogue, shared problem-solving, and supportive feedback while actively participating in patient care.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Provide advanced clinical support to emergency doctors, specialists, and ECC technicians
Perform and monitor care for critical, emergent, and hospitalized patients
Serve as a mentor and coach for ECC technicians, supporting onboarding and continued growth
Reinforce ECC protocols, triage standards, and emergency workflows with clarity and consistency
Promote open, respectful communication during high-stress situations
Support patient flow, case prioritization, and shift readiness through collaborative leadership
Assist with equipment readiness, crash carts, and emergency supplies
Partner with leadership to identify training needs and support professional development
Maintain accurate medical records, treatments, and charge capture
Support compassionate client communication aligned with AVS values
Lead by example to cultivate teamwork, accountability, and trust
Participate in ECC case rotations while providing leadership presence
Assist with controlled drug inventory and accurate counts

CONTINUING EDUCATION & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Minimum of five CE hours annually including OSHA training
Proactive pursuit of emergency, critical care, and leadership development
QUALIFICATIONS
CVT/LVT preferred, equivalent experience considered
4+ years experience as a Veterinary Technician
2+ years Emergency and/or Critical Care experience preferred

Strong emergency triage and critical care nursing skills

Calm, decisive leadership in high-acuity situations
Strong organization, prioritization, and multitasking skills

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance as needed
Manual dexterity, stamina, and situational awareness
Exposure to emergency cases, animals, chemicals, and moderate to high noise levels
