    Job Title: Before & After Program Teacher – Evening Shift

    Location: Early Start Childcare – 16901 Schoolcraft, Detroit, MI 48227 Schedule: Evening Program | 2:30-3:00 PM arrival – latest 12am-12:30am Reports to: Center Director

    Position Overview

    The Before & After Program Teacher plays a key role in supporting children during the transition times after the regular school day. This position is ideal for an educator who enjoys fostering a calm, engaging environment where children can unwind, learn, and participate in meaningful activities at the end of the day.

    The teacher will ensure a smooth flow of the afternoon and evening program, maintaining consistency, structure, and high quality care for every child in attendance.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide supervision and care for children during after school hours, ensuring safety and engagement at all times.

    Maintain a consistent daily routine that supports stability and structure for each child.

    Plan and facilitate age appropriate activities such as homework help, creative arts, physical play, and group games.

    Encourage positive social interactions, teamwork, and respectful communication among children.

    Prepare and serve snacks or light meals in accordance with center policies.

    Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom and common area environment.

    Communicate effectively with families about children’s participation, behaviors, and successes throughout the day.

    Collaborate with the Center Director and other teachers to support a cohesive, high quality learning environment.

    Qualifications

    CDA Early Childhood Education (preferred) or related experience.

    Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with school-age children or mixed-age groups in a licensed childcare setting.

    Knowledge of child development and behavior guidance practices.

    Ability to maintain structure, manage transitions smoothly, and create a calm, engaging environment.

    CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

    Dependable, patient, and passionate about supporting children’s growth during non-traditional hours.
