Position Summary
The Robots & Mentors Lead Movement & Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Facilitator is a senior after-school program leader responsible for designing, directing, and facilitating large-group, movement-based programming that supports student regulation, inclusion, and positive peer interaction.
This role leads RM PlayLab, the Robots & Mentors movement-based program model, and works in close coordination with RM Site Leadership, Robotics Instructors, mentors, and teachers to ensure a structured, safe, and engaging after-school experience for all students.
Program Context: RM PlayLab
RM PlayLab is the Robots & Mentors movement-based programming model designed to:
Support emotional regulation through structured physical activity
Reduce transition challenges in large after-school settings
Provide inclusive, developmentally appropriate play for mixed-age groups
Complement Robotics & Mentors instructional pull-outs
The Lead Movement & SEL Facilitator serves as the on-floor leader of RM PlayLab.
Core Responsibilities
Movement Programming & Space Leadership
Design and lead daily RM PlayLab movement programming for 50–100 students
Transform shared spaces (lunchrooms or gyms) into clearly defined movement zones
Adjust activities in real time based on student energy, behavior, and sensory needs
Staff Direction & Deployment
Direct Robots & Mentors mentors and teachers assigned to each age-appropriate band
Move staff fluidly to support specific games or student groups
Maintain clear roles, expectations, and communication during movement blocks
Training & Capacity Building
Train RM mentors and teachers in:
Movement-based engagement strategies
SEL-driven play facilitation
Trauma-informed de-escalation techniques
Model best practices so RM staff can replicate RM PlayLab systems independently
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Integration
Embed SEL intentionally into all movement activities, including:
Emotional regulation through physical activity
Cooperative problem-solving and teamwork
Sportsmanship and peer leadership
Facilitate brief grounding, reflection, or affirmation moments as appropriate
Program Setup, Safety & Breakdown
Oversee daily setup and breakdown of RM PlayLab equipment
Ensure all activities are safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate
Maintain a calm, predictable, and organized environment
Collaboration & Reporting
Collaborate with RM Site Leadership and Robotics Instructors
Share observations related to student engagement, behavior patterns, and staffing needs
Support implementation of the Robots & Mentors Unity League
Qualifications
Required
Experience leading youth sports, PE, recreation, or large-group movement programming
Comfort managing large, mixed-age groups
Strong leadership presence and decision-making skills
Preferred
Coaching or PE certification
SEL, trauma-informed, or restorative practices training
Experience training or supervising staff
Schedule
2–3 hours per day- Monday -Friday 3pm-6pm
Typically 2 days per week per site (3 plus sites)
Occasional Unity League event days
