Lead Project Manager
The Lead Project Manager drives the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software initiatives with precision and accountability. This role oversees the full project lifecycle — from defining requirements to final validation — ensuring alignment with business goals and technical standards. The Lead PM also mentors and supports other Project Managers, fostering best practices and consistent delivery excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and cross-functional stakeholders across business and IT.
- Lead the management and implementation of multiple, large-scale projects and programs, applying best practices across all phases.
- Develop comprehensive project plans and clear communication strategies to keep teams and stakeholders aligned.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to stakeholder satisfaction.
- Oversee third-party vendors and partners, ensuring project expectations and business outcomes are consistently met.
- Secure and coordinate required internal resources, negotiating with department leads as needed.
- Identify and manage project dependencies, risks, and critical paths, with proactive contingency planning.
- Establish and monitor project milestones, deliverables, and timelines using appropriate tools.
- Deliver progress reports, documentation, and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
- Conduct post-project reviews to identify successes and lessons learned, incorporating insights into future initiatives.
- Develop and maintain tools, templates, and standards for consistent project execution and performance measurement.
- Manage budgets exceeding one million dollars and oversee complex multi-vendor initiatives.
- Partner with business stakeholders to minimize operational risk and disruption.
- Lead and mentor Project Managers to strengthen overall team capability.
Skills and Abilities
- Expert-level proficiency with project management tools (Microsoft Project, MS Office Suite).
- Strong understanding of business diagramming tools such as Visio and relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server).
- Skilled at managing shifting priorities and solving complex problems under pressure.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization.
- Strong leadership, organization, and customer service orientation.
- Proven ability to complete projects through cross-functional cooperation and political awareness.
- Research-driven and highly adaptable, with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (emphasis in Management Information Systems preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of direct experience in project management, including full lifecycle process development and execution.
- PMP or Agile certification preferred.
