    About the role

The Glass Guru of Durham is a newly opened franchise serving Durham, Orange, and surrounding counties. We specialize in shower doors, mirrors, custom glass, and residential glass repair and replacement. This is our first technician hire. You'll be the lead glass technician for the business as we get off the ground, and as we grow, you'll bring on a helper to round out your team.

If you're an experienced glass tech who takes pride in your work, treats homeowners like neighbors, and wants steady residential service work without commercial construction chaos — this role is built for you.

    What you'll do

You're the person at the customer's door, evaluating the job and making it right. Most days look like 2–4 residential service appointments across the Durham/Orange area, each running 1–3 hours. You'll:

Verify materials and product quality before loading the truck each morning

Arrive on time, confirm the scope with the customer, and set clear expectations

Install to spec, troubleshoot what comes up on-site, and leave the home cleaner than you found it

Walk the customer through care, maintenance, and warranty before you leave

Close the job out in our field system and flag any callbacks or material needs to the office

    Service mix:

    Shower door installation and repair

Mirror installation, custom tabletops, glass shelving

Insulated glass unit (IGU) replacement for failed/foggy windows

    Single-pane window repair, screen replacement

Skylights, sliding doors, and light commercial work as it comes in

You'll drive a company-provided truck. We're starting at the intersection of our standard service menu and your areas of expertise — if you bring depth in something specific, we'll lean into it.

    What we're looking for

5+ years hands-on residential or light-commercial glass experience — more is better

    Real pride in workmanship

Customer-friendly: you can explain a job to a homeowner in plain language and stay calm when things go sideways

    Safety-first as a habit, not a slogan

Physically able to repeatedly lift up to 75 lbs unassisted; team lifts for larger glass panels

Clean driving record — no DUIs in the last 5 years, no at-fault accidents or major moving violations in the last 3

    HS diploma or equivalent

Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen

Eligible to work in the US

    What we offer

$30–$35/hr based on experience, with pay reviewed at six months based on performance and business growth

5-star review bonus: $50 for each customer review that mentions you by name during your first 25, then $25 per qualifying review ongoing — uncapped

Company truck, fuel card, and shop-provided power tools

    Predictable M–F, 8 AM–5 PM schedule — no on-call rotation

Any after-hours work is opt-in for everyone involved and paid at premium

    Paid time off

A real role on a new, growing business — not a number on a roster
