About DC Design
DC Design is a social impact strategy and design consulting firm on a mission to eliminate generational poverty and uplift Black, brown, and low-income communities across the United States. We do this by redesigning the five systems of Black inequality—housing, education, wealth creation, healthcare, and criminal justice, to build an America where all communities are fortified, self-determinant, and prosperous.
Using Human-Centered Design, our cross-disciplinary team works alongside those most affected by inequity to co-create solutions that are validated, implementable, and long-lasting. We partner with nonprofits, foundations, and governments to tackle complex social problems and teach them how to apply our methods.
Our Work
We create systems-level change through five core service areas:
Research – In-depth interviews, journey mapping, and needs assessments to uncover community insights.
Strategy – Guiding organizations to develop bold, inclusive strategies rooted in community voice.
Design – Co-developing programs, services, and digital tools that directly meet user needs.
Implementation Support – Providing hands-on guidance and capacity building to turn strategies into action.
Impact Evaluation – Helping organizations measure outcomes that truly reflect impact, not just activity.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Lead Strategy & Design Consultant, a strategic thinker, creative problem solver, and purpose-driven leader who can hit the ground running. This is an ideal role for an A-player who thrives in an agile, fast-paced consulting environment and is eager to contribute from day one.
You’ll lead client engagements that combine design thinking, community research, and systems strategy to address the root causes of inequality. You’ll be part facilitator, part strategist, and part implementer, someone who can move seamlessly from ideation to execution.
You Will:
Lead community-centered research, strategic planning, service design, and implementation projects.
Facilitate design thinking workshops and teach human-centered design methodologies.
Conduct empathy-driven research and translate findings into actionable strategies and recommendations.
Guide clients through complex systems challenges with clarity and compassion.
Develop impact evaluation frameworks and logic models.
Manage multiple projects and client relationships across diverse issue areas (housing, health, education, justice).
Support internal growth initiatives, business development, and team optimization efforts.
About You
You’re a strategic doer, confident in ambiguity, highly adaptable, and motivated by creating tangible impact. You combine empathy, analytical thinking, and executional discipline. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and thrive when surrounded by other high-performing, purpose-driven professionals.
You bring:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a design-related, technical, or research field
2+ years of experience applying human-centered design or design thinking professionally
Strong experience facilitating workshops and guiding clients through complex processes
Proven ability to manage multiple projects in an agile, fast-paced environment
Excellent writing, synthesis, and presentation skills
A deep passion for social impact and lived experience relevant to the communities we serve
Bonus Skills (Not Required but Valued)
Experience developing impact evaluation frameworks
Familiarity with nonprofit, foundation, or government operations
UX, visual, or service design background (Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, InDesign, etc.)
Data analysis, storytelling, or evaluation experience
Fluency in Spanish or additional languages
Strength in marketing, communications, or sales strategy
