  • Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Unit Manager, Supervisor or delegate in charge of the team/unit, the Rehab Assistant I / NA assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.  

     

    The Rehab Assistant I / NA must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit — adolescent through geriatric. The Certified Nurse Aide must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to provide the care needed as described in the Nursing Department's policies and procedures.

    EDUCATION:

     

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

     

    Experience as a Nursing Assistant preferred

               

    SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

     

    Must be sixteen years of age or older.

    Must be CPR certified or willing to become CPR certified.

    Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors or other hospital personnel.

    Must maintain confidentiality of patient information.

    Must successfully pass Certified Rehabilitation Nursing Assistant test within orientation period.

    Required to float between units and locations.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

     

    Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.

    Position involves bending, reaching, stooping and lifting (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.

    Position requires ability to transport self throughout facility, including satellite units (ASRH only), frequently, while pushing a wheelchair.

     

    ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:

     

    Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.

    Exposure to needle sticks possible.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    Works in a well-lit nursing unit, which includes: nurses station, patient's rooms, treatment areas, etc.
