Huntington Learning Center in Harrisburg is seeking enthusiastic Learning Center Teachers / Academic Tutors to work with elementary, middle, and high school students in reading, writing, math, and study skills.
This is an excellent opportunity for K–4 teachers, early childhood educators, college graduates, graduate students, STEM professionals, and aspiring educators who enjoy helping students succeed.
Our programs are highly structured, so teachers can focus on what they do best—teaching and mentoring students.
No lesson planning. No grading. Curriculum and materials are provided.
Responsibilities
Provide 1-on-1 or small group instruction to K–12 students
Teach reading, writing, math, or study skills based on student needs
Deliver explicit, systematic phonics instruction to beginning readers (as applicable)
Support early literacy development including Phonemic awareness (blending, segmenting, rhyming), Letter-sound correspondence, Decoding (CVC words, blends, digraphs, vowel patterns) and Sight word recognition and early reading fluency
Support homework help and academic skill development
Help students build confidence and improve academic performance
Maintain a positive and professional learning environment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience teaching or supporting early readers (K–4) strongly preferred
Working knowledge of phonics-based instruction and early literacy development preferred
Teaching certification preferred but not required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patient, positive, and student-focused
Prior tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or coaching experience preferred
Schedule
Flexible part-time scheduling available.
Typical center hours:
School Year Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 8:30 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Summer Hours Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Tutors typically work 6–20 hours per week depending on availability.
Compensation & Benefits
$15 - $17 per hour (based on experience and subject expertise)
