    Job Description

     

    Learning Individual Studies Academy’s Learning Center is a private facility offering on-site pod learning to students grades K-8. We are passionate about helping families during this time of COVID-19 school closures. We all have a team mentality and we work together to do what is best of everyone. We focus on equity. Our facility is a eight-room former catholic middle school. We are assisting the community by offering learning pods. Our pods are not expensive and we strive to keep costs down for parents as we know there is an equity and access issue in America. Our families are loyal and committed to their children’s education and their teacher/tutors requests.

    Description of role:

    We are seeking teachers/tutors for our academic and enrichment facility. There are eight classrooms with microwaves and printers. The role of a teacher/tutor is to supervise student attending their distance learning classes and help when needed. Please note, in an abundance of caution and safety, our facility will be closed October 15 – February 15 during flu season as determined by the CDC and American Pediatric Association. During this time, you may be asked to continue to reach out to students remotely to offer encouragement and/or tutoring.

    TASKS:

    – Focus on their needs during their virtual/distance learning class. For example, if they need a pencil, if they need materials, listening to see if they truly understand and making a note to go back over it with them.

    – Making sure they play well together will socially distancing. No more than 9 children will be in a pod.

    – Following a precise snack, outside play, lunch, and enrichment schedule.

    – Keeping room tidy. We have full time person to help you with disinfecting and PPE for you and students.

    – Making sure students keep on their masks. At no time should mask be removed from their face.

    – Making sure windows stay open for air flow purposes as outlined by the CDC and Dept. of Health. There are five working windows in each class.

    – Helping them complete their assignments. Ideally, no child will have homework when they get home.

    – Staying in contact with on-site director about child’s progress/need and their respective lead teacher’s need.

    – Provide supplemental material when asked by director or independently if you feel it will help child gain a deeper understanding of content.

    – Areas children will need help in: fluency, reading comprehension, writing, phonics, mathematics, history, science.

    – Reaching out for help when needed. We have a child psychologist and a number of credentialed teachers on duty. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask.

    – Helping students stay organized.

    – Playing in class games to keep them motivated.

    – There is an outside classroom area for each pod. In the afternoon, while children are playing, tutoring is conducted there. We have internet that reaches to the parking lot.

    – Assisting student with uploading their completed assignments via scanning machine etc.

    – Making sure students take home ALL of their personal items.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    The ideal candidates are college graduates, students currently enrolled in teaching programs, working professionals, credentials educators, and professional tutors.

    • Bachelor’s Degree is ideal but NOT required.

    • Although not required students currently enrolled in teaching programs is preferred.

    • Teacher certification, not required but a plus.

    • Tutoring or teaching experience is preferred but not required.

    • We provide training. Bilingual is a plus but NOT mandatory (Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, Farsi, French)

    • Remote teaching sessions: Only if asked of the parent during the time our facility is closed (October 15-February 15.)

    WORK SCHEDULE:

    Work Schedule availability for teachers/tutors (WE ARE CLOSED ON FRIDAYS)

    7:30 – 3:15 Many positions

    8am to 12pm – limited positions

    12pm to 4pm – limited positions

    Between 4 pm – 9 pm weekdays – FOR PRIVATE TUTORING ONE-ON-ONE ONLY

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Successfully pass a background check

    • Must have reliable transportation

    • Commitment to taking measures to limiting exposure while outside of work.

    Requirements during flu season closure (not applicable to all candidates)

    • Ability to tutor remotely due to COVID-19. Tutors may continue to tutor remotely or can tutor in-home if a family prefers in-person tutoring during the time we are closed. THIS IS NOT A HARD REQUIREMENT but want you to be aware that parents may still want/need services during this time.

    • In-home tutoring (Follow CDC safe practices during COVID-19)

    COVID-19 considerations: May required COVID-19 monthly testing. Temperature checks daily (three times a day). Weekend temperature self monitoring (materials provided.) The facility is following all of the CDC guidelines for teacher/tutors and students. Masks are required at all times by both students and teachers/tutors. We have a separate break room and it is cleaned and disinfected after every use. You do not have to share the same space with another teacher/tutor. Your class is disinfected each time you leave.
