The Legal Assistant at Modern Law plays a vital role in supporting attorneys and clients through the family law process by providing exceptional administrative and client service support. This position is responsible for managing case-related tasks, preparing legal documents, maintaining accurate files, coordinating schedules, and ensuring deadlines are met in a fast-paced legal environment. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of balancing multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and empathy. This role requires strong communication skills, a commitment to confidentiality, and the ability to support both internal legal teams and clients during emotionally sensitive matters. The Legal Assistant contributes directly to Modern Law’s mission by helping create a smooth client experience, supporting case progression, and ensuring operational excellence throughout the lifecycle of each case. Responsibilities: • Manage office correspondence and administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, responding to emails, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines • Help with creating a variety of litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents when necessary • Arrange travel, schedule meetings and appointments for the team, such as depositions, and coordinate with outside vendors for events • Be willing to take on any other necessary administrative tasks to help the firm run smoothly • Manage front desk duties including client greeting, mail processing, notarizing documents, scanning and more. Qualifications: • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a law firm or office environment as an administrative assistant or secretary • Comfortable working with all Microsoft Office products • Candidates should be able to type at least 50 words per minute • Experience with legal software, litigation case management, and docketing programs • High school diploma or equivalent is required; associate’s degree is a plus Compensation: $25 - $28 hourly
