Responsibilities
Preparing and processing legal documents and papers, such as answers, motions, statutory settlement offers, and release agreements.
Review and finalize legal forms and documents for accuracy.
Mailing, faxing, or arranging for delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses, and court officials
Receiving and placing telephone calls; scheduling and making appointments
Track statutes of limitations and litigation deadlines
File court documents through OneLegal and manage calendaring
Assisting with office administrative duties by making photocopies of correspondences, documents, and other printed matters
Organizing and maintaining documents and case files
Assisting attorneys in collecting information relevant to caseloads
Drafting and typing office memos, letters and other correspondence.
Performing other work-related duties as assigned
Assist attorneys in all aspects of litigation including preparing, organizing, and filing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and correspondence.
Calendar court deadlines, hearings, filing deadlines, and internal reminders to ensure compliance with court rules, case timelines, and client expectations.
Prepare initial drafts of various documents for supervising attorney’s review.
Monitor matter progress and coordinate with supervising attorneys to ensure deadlines are met and matters move forward efficiently.
Collaborate with attorneys and clients to gather information and provide case updates.
Qualifications
Must have 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced law firm as a civil litigation legal assistant/legal secretary
The candidate must be self-starting with a “hit the ground running” work ethic.
Experience with case intake/opening.
Experience with managing deadlines and ensuring attorneys meet the same.
Experience with filing and service in California superior, federal and appellate courts.
Knowledge of rules relating to service and filing of pleadings and discovery.
Familiarity with expert designation and deposition process.
Familiarity with trial-triggered deadlines.
Be comfortable with client contact via email and phone.
Must have trial preparation experience, including preparation, service, and filing of trial documents, motions in limine, and preparation of exhibit binders.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook/Excel).
