    Job Description

    Successful law firm seeks a full time Legal Assistant for our downtown St. Louis location.

    Schedule: Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    The Legal Assistant enhances attorneys’ effectiveness in handling cases, communication with clients, and obtaining needed evidence for available defenses; monitoring case development and deadlines; and supporting attorney's trial and deposition settings. This position involves heavy dictation for numerous attorneys to assist with overflow and the preparation of documents for worker’s comp defense and general liability cases.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software.
    • Completing attorney dictation through firm software including correspondence, pleadings and medical records requests, etc.
    • Utilization of e-filing procedures through various court systems including civil courts and the workers compensation commission.
    • Assist with preparation for trials and hearings including preparing exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed.
    • Scheduling depositions and independent medical evaluations. This includes working with opposing attorneys for scheduling and doctor’s offices.
    • Requesting medical records through HIPAA, subpoena or Form 43 documents as required and following up with medical providers for requested records.
    • Assisting with overflow of work in the office including filing, medical request, etc.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Must have experience with typing dictation.
    • Must have 3+ years of Legal Assistant experience supporting attorneys in a legal office setting
    • Experience with electronic filing for workers’ compensation and general liability preferred
    • Working knowledge of court rules and procedures.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
    • Firm and Client Confidentiality required.
