Hooks Meng & Clement is looking for an efficient, organized Legal Assistant to help our attorneys assist clients and ensure we’re operating efficiently in our Carson City office. You’ll assist with the preparation of legal documents and handle office correspondence, including answering phone calls and emails, arranging meetings, and calendaring. Hooks Meng & Clement specializes in Workers’ Compensation Insurance Defense, OSHA Employer Representation, Subrogation, Subsequent Injury, and Industrial Insurance Litigation by defending employers, insurers, third-party administrators, and others. Must be a Nevada resident. Responsibilities: • Conduct legal research, when necessary, with guidance from attorneys and paralegals • Responsible for supporting attorneys by performing a variety of administrative duties to ensure the firm and cases run smoothly • Work with attorneys and paralegals to create various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation • Strong communication skills are required for frequent interaction with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients • Organize files and upload documents to the appropriate matter while using case management software • Ensure client billing is processed properly using daily time records • Keen attention to detail to proofread documents as needed • Make copies, fax, and scan documents • Prepare packets for hearings and courts • Answer phones, take messages, and assist callers Qualifications: • Must be able to type 50 wpm or faster with a high rate of accuracy • Strong organizational and communication skills with a courteous and professional demeanor • Proficient in the use of standard office software, including all Microsoft Office products • Experience with legal software, billing software, electronic case management, and docketing programs is preferred, but not required • Experience in the legal industry and familiarity with legal documents and terminology are highly desired • Ability to providean excellent customer experience, utilizing strong customer service for frequent interaction with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients • As we are largely paperless, you will need to understand how to work in a digital environment with PDFs and other digital formats • Ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines • Ability to work as a team with attorneys and other staff, as well as discipline to work independently • Must live in the Northern Nevada area, as this is an in-office position. Compensation: $45,000+ DOE
