Johnson Johnson Lucas & Middleton, a plaintiffs' litigation firm, is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support attorneys representing individuals harmed by medical malpractice, products liability, personal injury, civil rights, employment law, and police misconduct.
This role supports all stages of litigation—from case development and discovery through trial preparation—and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and values work that advances civil rights and accountability.
What You'll Do
- Support attorneys in plaintiff-side litigation matters from intake through trial.
- Prepare, proofread, and electronically file pleadings and motions in state and federal courts.
- Travel to trial locations to assist attorneys with on-site trial preparation and courtroom presentation support.
- Maintain and manage active case files, ensuring records, discovery, and litigation documents are well-organized and easily accessible.
- Draft and respond to discovery requests and subpoenas, manage document production, and accurately track discovery deadlines.
- Coordinate depositions and prepare deposition materials and exhibits.
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit binders, witness materials, timelines, and trial notebooks.
- Create and organize trial presentation materials and exhibits.
- Maintain case calendars and monitor litigation deadlines for multiple attorneys.
- Communicate with clients, experts, courts, and opposing counsel. Ensure clients stay updated with their case status, document collection, and required information.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Three years of experience as a legal assistant and/or providing executive or administrative support in a similar environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize and follow through on tasks.
- Interest in civil rights, social justice, or public interest work.

**Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting civil litigation matters, including discovery, depositions, and trial preparation. Familiarity with state and federal court e-filing systems is strongly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly wage: $27–$33 depending on experience
