    Scrofano Law PC, one of the region’s leading criminal defense firms, is seeking a Spanish-English bilingual Legal Assistant to join its Washington, DC office and provide direct support to the firm’s founding attorney. This position also includes limited support for Spanish-speaking DC matters handled by our Maryland office. This is not a typical administrative job. It is a high-trust, high-responsibility litigation support role in a fast-paced criminal defense practice. The right candidate will be detail-driven, proactive, and comfortable operating at a high level under pressure. This role is based full-time, in person, in Washington, DC, with limited work-from-home flexibility at the discretion of the firm. You will work closely with attorneys on active criminal matters, manage sensitive client communications, and provide litigation and operational support essential to the firm’s success. During trial periods and major deadlines, the pace accelerates—this role requires focus, organization, and reliability. Benefits: • 401(k) • Dental insurance • Disability insurance • Health insurance • Life insurance • Paid sick time • Paid time off Responsibilities: • Communicate daily with English- and Spanish-speaking clients by phone, email, and text • Support firm operations and administrative functions related to management • Manage client relationships with professionalism, clarity, and empathy • Proofread, prepare, and file legal motions and court documents • Maintain accurate, reliable, and traceable case notes in Clio Manage • Schedule and manage an attorney's calendar and deadlines • Act as a gatekeeper to protect attorney time and case priorities Qualifications: • Strong spoken Spanish is required and used daily • Strong Spanish skills combined with attention to detail and trainability are valued over perfect prior legal experience • Must communicate independently with Spanish-speaking clients • Criminal defense legal terminology is strongly preferred, but trainable • Translation tools (DeepL) are used as support, not a substitute for fluency • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented • Able to follow instructions exactly as given • Proactive and able to anticipate needs • Calm and professional under pressure, especially during trials • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in client communication • Able to triage tasks by urgency and importance without constant supervision Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000 per year
