    Legal Translator, Editor, and/or Transcriber - Greek to/from English - Remote Status: Freelance 1099 Contractor

    Global Language Strategies, a woman-owned small business headquartered in the Washington DC metropolitan region, is currently seeking professional freelance translators, editors, and transcribers to translate, edit and/or transcribe legal documents between English and Greek. ​ Job Duties:

    1. Provide accurate translation and/or editing of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from Greek to/from English.
    2. Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.
    3. Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.
    4. Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
    5. Translate and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.
    6. Use domain-specific terminology.
    7. Review and certify the quality of other translators’ work, as needed.
    8. Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    9. Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
    10. Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work.

    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level.
    2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    3. At least 2 to 3 years of experience in translating and/or editing between English and the Greek language.
    4. At least 2 to 3 years of experience performing forensic audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
    5. Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the Greek.
    6. Proficient in Microsoft Office. 6 Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as SDL Trados.

    This is a remote position.
