    SALARY: $16/Hour

    STATUS: Open

    FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

    DATES: Until filled; March-September (Start and end dates flexible)

    Incumbent serves a part-time leisure services intern for the St. Joseph County Parks Department, responsible for assisting with various programs, events, and recreational activities.

    Responsibilities

    Assist with leisure services programs, special events, and recreational activities including canoeing, kayaking, disc golf, fishing, archery, orienteering, and geocaching.

    Assist with kiosk development, display, and brochure creation for use throughout the parks

    Work in a team environment to plan, conduct, and evaluate public programs

    Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

    Must have adequate transportation to commute to work and between parks

    Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

    Education/Experience


    Working toward (or possessing) a degree in Parks and Recreation, Outdoor Education, Recreation, Elementary Education, or related field preferred

    Experience working with differing age groups preferred

    Physical Requirements


    Must have the ability to lift objects of 50lbs or more

    Must be able to hike distances of a mile on trails of mixed terrain

    Requires close and distant vision, color and depth perception, hearing, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate effectively

    Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
