The successful candidate will have evidence of strong potential for establishing an independent, extramurally-funded research program, a demonstrated interest in teaching, and a commitment to activist public health. BUSPH believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. We are eager to have join our ranks colleagues who support our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive.

Boston University is an AAU institution with a rich tradition of inclusion and social justice. We are proud to be the first American university to award a Ph.D. to a woman, and we continue that tradition of educating a diverse and talented student body. The School of Public Health takes the University’s commitment even further with its own detailed plan for fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Founded in 1976, the Boston University School of Public Health ranks as the eighth leading public health school in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings. It offers master's- and doctoral-level education in public health. With over 300 faculty in six departments, the School conducts policy-changing public health research, with the mission of improving the health of populations—especially the underserved—locally and globally.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree in public health or a related field, demonstrated outstanding scholarship through publication and externally funded research, as well as a commitment to graduate education and mentorship of students. Successful candidates will be expected to lead an independent research agenda, actively engage in collaborative research; participate in teaching and mentoring master’s and doctoral-level students; and provide service to the department, university and profession.

The School of Public Health actively seeks to enrich its student and faculty ranks, recognizing that diversity of experience deepens the intellectual endeavor. We seek to embed—within our curricular and co-curricular activities—the principle that pluralism within a learning community is a source of insight and effectiveness.

Applicants should provide their curriculum vitae and a cover letter that includes (a) a summary of their research interests and experience, (b) a teaching statement; and (c) a diversity statement that details how their research, mentoring, and teaching will promote diversity and inclusivity at our school at
