Location: Emergency Shelter, Monroe County, Georgia, and other designated zones as per contract requirements
Employment Type: Temporary/Contract Basis
Job Summary:
The Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) will provide essential mental health services within the emergency shelter facilities operated under the Georgia Department of Public Health Emergency Preparedness program. The LMHC will work under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and provide comprehensive mental health counseling services to shelter residents. This position requires adherence to all state and federal regulations within the scope of practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1\. Patient Care:
\- Provide individual, group, and family counseling to shelter residents.
\- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans in coordination with other healthcare professionals.
\- Conduct mental health assessments to determine the psychological status of residents.
\- Counsel residents on coping mechanisms, stress management, and other mental health strategies.
2\. Crisis Intervention & Assessment:
\- Perform crisis intervention services as needed.
\- Triage and prioritize mental health care needs based on severity.
\- Administer and interpret psychological assessments under the purview of the LMHC scope of practice.
3\. Compliance and Quality Assurance:
\- Ensure compliance with all state and federal mental health regulations.
\- Participate in quality assurance processes to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
\- Promptly address and resolve any performance issues or complaints.
4\. Documentation:
\- Maintain accurate and current patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and assessment results.
\- Ensure thorough and timely documentation of all services provided.
\- Submit reports on mental health activities and outcomes as required by the Department and Prime Contractor.
5\. Onboarding and Training:
\- Attend just-in-time orientation/training provided by the facility representative upon arrival at the assignment.
\- Utilize continuing education opportunities to stay current with best practices in mental health counseling.
6\. Collaboration and Communication:
\- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
\- Communicate care plans and changes to appropriate medical staff efficiently.
\- Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and healthcare providers to convey necessary information.
7\. Shift Assignments:
\- Work scheduled shifts as determined by the Department’s Office of Nursing Representative, which may include 8- or 12-hour shifts.
\- Be prepared to hold over at the end of the shift if mental health resources are below minimum mandatory staffing levels until replacement coverage arrives.
Qualifications:
Licensure:
\- Current, unencumbered License to practice as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Georgia.
Experience:
\- A minimum of 1 year of mental health counseling experience.
Skills:
\- Strong assessment and crisis intervention skills.
\- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
\- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull objects, and stand for long periods.
Certification:
\- Mental Health Crisis Certification preferred but not required.
\- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
\- Must be able to work in an emergency shelter setting.
\- Capability to handle high-stress situations and adapt to changing patient needs.
\- Must be physically able to manage and operate mental health and medical equipment as necessary.
Reporting:
\- Directly reports to the Charge Nurse or designated supervisory staff at the emergency shelter.
\- Maintain regular communication with the Prime Contractor, Acuity International, and subcontractor, Sterling Medical.
Deliverables:
\- Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required documentation and reports.
\- Adhere to the staffing schedule and any amendments therein.
\- Respond to requests from the Department within the stipulated timeframes.
