    Job Title:

    Licensed Social Worker – Mental Health Therapist

    Position Summary:

    The Licensed Social Worker – Mental Health Therapist provides comprehensive mental health assessments, therapy, crisis intervention, and care coordination to individuals and families experiencing emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric challenges. This role combines clinical expertise with social work principles to promote client well-being, resilience, and recovery.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, diagnoses (using DSM-5-TR criteria), and develop individualized treatment plans.

    Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care.

    Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions to address a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use disorders, and severe mental illnesses.

    Collaborate with psychiatrists, primary care providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure integrated care.

    Engage in case management activities, linking clients with community resources such as housing, employment services, support groups, and social services.

    Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all clinical interactions in accordance with legal, ethical, and agency standards.

    Utilize risk assessment tools to evaluate and respond to suicidality, self-harm, violence risk, and other psychiatric emergencies.

    Provide crisis intervention services as needed, including safety planning and referrals to higher levels of care.

    Educate clients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and recovery supports.

    Participate in clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and agency trainings to maintain licensure and enhance clinical skills.

    Uphold the highest ethical standards as outlined by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.

    Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.

    Active, unrestricted state licensure (e.g., LCSW, LICSW, LMSW in Maryland).

    One or more years of clinical experience in mental health settings preferred (outpatient, inpatient, community mental health, or substance use treatment programs).

    Strong skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, documentation, and clinical intervention.

    Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, culturally competent care, and co-occurring disorders.

    Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs).

    Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

    Work Environment:

    Office-based, telehealth, or community-based settings.

    May involve evening or weekend hours based on client needs and scheduling.

    Physical Requirements:

    Ability to sit, stand, and engage in active listening for extended periods.

    Ability to travel locally for home visits, community meetings, or outreach if necessary.
