    LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Medical Technologist Training Program as Medical Technologist Students in Gainesville, FL. The session will begin in August 2019. The selected candidates will participate in a rigorous six month training program and become full-time paid employees of LifeSouth for the duration of the program. After completion, graduates take a board exam and apply for Florida licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Medical Technologist) in the specialties of Immunohematology and Blood Banking. All students will sign a service commitment to LifeSouth contingent upon completion of the program and qualifying for state licensure. After completion of the program, graduates may be expected to relocate to Gainesville, FL; Jacksonville, FL or Atlanta, GA.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field

    • Completion of required coursework including:

    Biological Science (16 semester hours) including Microbiology, Immunology, Anatomy/Physiology, and/or Genetics/Molecular Biology

    Chemistry (16 semester hours) including Organic and/or Biochemistry

    Mathematics

    • Valid driver's license. Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements

    • Must currently be legally authorized to work in the United States

    • Must not possess a history of licensure actions or criminal acts that would prevent the applicant from applying for or obtaining a Florida Medical License or Trainee license

    • Ability to solve complex problems and accurately evaluate results

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills coupled with the ability to prepare neat and legible reports

    • Ability to work with little or no supervision after adequate instructions

    • Must maintain a clean and organized work area

    • Ability to prioritize tasks to complete work efficiently

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    • Completion of coursework in Immunology, Laboratory Science, Statistics, Computer Science and Management
