LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently seeking an individual to join our team as a Medical Office Specialist in Gainesville, FL. This position is responsible for providing administrative support to the Medical Office Supervisor and the Medical Directors.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain and organize the supervisor’s and Medical Directors’ calendars, including but not limited to: meetings, call schedules and travel schedules
Draft correspondence, answer phones, coordinate mailing and handle inquiries and requests from internal and external sources on the supervisor’s behalf
Act as a liaison between nursing services, Medical Office Supervisor and Medical Directors with LifeCord, laboratories, Quality Assurance as well as other managers/departments, regarding employee and policy issues, contracts, financial matters and regulatory issues
Address and document questions related to donor eligibility
Enroll autologous, directed, and therapeutic patients into the computer and manage their donations
Speak with donors regarding significant incidents during donation and document as appropriate
Schedule donor re-entry testing; initialize processing of donor reinstatements
Perform all functions associated with donor notification
Obtain and process requests for protected health information
Perform administrative functions relating to employee exposures and adverse transfusion events
Be trained in and adhere to HIPAA regulations and guidelines
May manage and implement special projects, as assigned
Be available by phone for shared weekend call, 9a-5p, regarding urgent donor and blood component issues
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Administrative and computer experience
Valid driver's license. Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements
Must maintain confidentiality of donor information, including test results
Basic computer skills and competence with the Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently
Strong skills in communication, self-confidence, donor relationship and written communication
Ability to follow complex written and oral instructions
Ability to interact professionally with all customers, both external and internal
The ideal candidate will possess:
Associate’s degree
Previous blood banking experience and/or medical background
