Job Summary The Immigration Legal Assistant’s primary responsibility is to prepare quality legal documents, applications, and evidence for review by the attorney as well as to usher our clients through the immigration process throughout the duration of their case. Working in tandem with the Attorney as part of the Legal Team, the Immigration Legal Assistant is responsible for collaborating effectively with their team members to achieve the Firm's and client's objectives, as well as enhance the client journey. Work Conditions/Physical Demands: • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. • Occasionally must be able to lift 15 lbs. Responsibilities: Duties/Responsibilities • Meets and communicates effectively with attorneys and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects and provide necessary updates; • Ensures systems (Lolly, spreadsheets) are updated and accurate on a daily basis to foster effective cross-departmental communication; • Communicates with different law enforcement agencies about records, case status updates, or other requirements and processes applicable payments; • Researches and analyzes country condition articles, legal articles, and other legal sources, and provides an annotated index for attorneys to review; • Drafts legal documents, including routine cover letters, affidavits, and questionnaires; files applications, motions, and pleadings according to judicial procedures; • Reviews and tailors legal document templates to specific client scenarios, such as - Welcomes, questionnaires, checklists, etc.; • Conducts initial document review for the client within the assigned timeframe and draft email with a list of missing documents for the client; • Prepares packets for Attorney review, which includes reviewing and organizing case files into final form, ready to be delivered to courts, clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel; • Accountable for ensuring the packet is in final form and is mailed out by the Office Team in a timely fashion; • Responds accordingly to handle unexpected situations that arise (government policy changes, law enforcement agencies, or USCIS/Court responses); • Effectively manages workload to complete tasks within due dates and adhere to Service Standards; • Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently. Education and Experience • 3-5 years experience in the legal services industry (Required) • Experience in US Immigration Law, with a focus on family and humanitarian (Required) • Proficiency in Removal Defense cases (Strongly Preferred) • An Associate's degree or some college is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent required • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times • Excellent organizational skills • Customer-service-oriented communication skills with clients • Emotional intelligence and empathy • Team player • Positive attitude Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; Qualifications: • 3-5 years experience in the legal services industry (Required) • Experience in US Immigration Law, with a focus on family and humanitarian (Required) • Proficiency in Removal Defense cases (Strongly Preferred) • An Associate's degree or some college is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent required • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times • Excellent organizational skills • Customer-service-oriented communication skills with clients • Emotional intelligence and empathy • Team player • Positive attitude Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 yearly
