Little Engine is on a mission to give the neighborhood rotisserie a serious tune-up. Little Engine is led by Chef Rob Sonderman, who grew up a few blocks away from our Eastern Market location and wanted to build the kind of place he’d actually want in his neighborhood. Rob has spent his career transforming familiar food into something more craveeable and fun. He helped build DCity Smokehouse and Federalist Pig into two of DC’s standout barbecue spots, then co-founded Honeymoon Chicken, where he focused on bringing bold flavors in a fast-casual setting.

THE ROLE As a Line Cook or Prep Cook, you'll be part of the MOTOR that keeps Little Engine Running. You’ll help prepare and execute rotisserie chicken, wings, sauces, and sides with speed, consistency, and care.
Responsibilities include:
Daily prep of proteins, sauces, vegetables, and sides
Cooking and plating menu items to spec during service
Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workstation
Following food safety and sanitation standards
Working as part of a tight, respectful team in a fast-paced environment
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Ability to take direction and work well with others
Calm, focused approach under pressure
Pride in quality food and clean kitchens
Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices
Reliability and a strong work ethic
Kitchen experience preferred, but not required we’ll train the right people
Basic English communication skills required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and move for an 8 hours per shift
Ability to lift up to 15 lbs regularly
Reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, and pulling
Hand-eye coordination and comfort working in a busy kitchen environment
Ability to climb stairs in multi-level restaurant spaces (if applicable)
