    Job Description

    As a PAYROLL AND BENEFITS SPECIALIST on our People team, you'll be an essential part of creating a supportive environment for our organization, making sure our employees get paid on time, and building great benefits packages. You'll be responsible for all-things-payroll and should be up to speed on current US and State regulations. You'll also administer our benefits, including open enrollment, 401k, all types of employee leaves, and more. Working on a small People team at a growing company presents many growth opportunities and the ability to build solid relationships and learn from each (exceptional) team member.

    • You are comfortable with HRIS systems and other HR tools - we use Rippling and Lattice
    • You are obsessive about payroll details and paying every employee on time 
    • You are constantly curious about “what’s hot” on the benefits market 
    • You are excited to grow your role in the total rewards space 
    • You operate with a service mindset and lead with empathy  
    • You are a great communicator and detail-oriented 
    • You take pride in operating in a confidential role and team 
    • You are a collaborative team player and don’t mind stepping in where needed

     

    WE'D LOVE TO SEE

    • You can run payroll in your sleep
    • You know the ins and outs of state regulations and have processed multi-state payrolls
    • You have experience paying out commissions 
    • You are comfortable running reports and using Excel 
    • You love to get creative with benefits offerings

     

    ABOUT THE ROLE 

    • You will be running payroll semi-monthly for two separate pay groups
    • You will partner with our insurance brokers to develop our benefit offerings
    • You will be the main point of contact for our HRIS system and 401k program
    • You are the subject matter expert- you will be answering questions from employees about our payroll and benefits offerings 
    • You will be performing compensation and payroll audits 
    • You are responsible for state business registration and updating payroll tax information per state
    • You will complete regular reviews of our payroll processes and continue to improve and evolve our payroll processes, policies, and procedures
    • You will constantly review payroll data, including trends, and provide analysis and insights to the People team

    To be equitable to all Literatians, we have set compensation, and a non-negotiation policy- a person's pay should not be determined by how comfortable they are negotiating. As a result, we like to be transparent and up-front about the compensation. When we make an offer, we provide options so that employees can choose between compensation packages that prioritize salary or equity. The salary band for this role will be between $75,000 - $85,000. All offers are informed by your experience, tenure, and level of expertise - to be determined through the interview process.
