Litigation Associate – Workers Compensation

Overview

Our client, a leading Worker's Comp law firm in Sleepy Hollow, is seeking a talented Litigation Attorney to join its growing team! No worker's comp experience is necessary. This would be an excellent role for a former District Attorney or Public Defender, as it requires heavy courtroom experience.

_ The position will start fully in-office, but the firm offers a hybrid work schedule (two remote days per week) after initial training is complete._

The attorney will manage a caseload of Workers’ Compensation files. Responsibilities include:

New Claimant in-take, continuous communication with clients, claims analysis, review of medical evidence, review of correspondence with WCB and carriers, all relevant filings with the NYS WCB, appearances for hearings and trials, appearances at depositions, drafting of settlement documents and drafting of appeals and rebuttals.

Responsibilities

• Represents claimants before the NYS WCB on behalf of the law firm and presents witnesses and evidence at administrative hearings on litigated workers’ compensation claims.
• Analyzes complex legal and factual issues, conducts extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present strategies on behalf of the Claimant.
• Prepares pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of claim strategies.
• Provides effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
• Position requires the use of independent judgment, research, litigation and analytical skills.
• Communicates with the NYS WCB, witnesses, opposing counsel, and clients in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
• Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
• Keeps current with legal trends and demands. Attends continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.
• Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• State licensed attorney NY
• Knowledge of Workers' Compensation statutes and its application is a plus
• 3+ years of litigation and court room experience

Salary

• $130-150k, depending on experience
