Job Title: Paralegal III

Work Mode: (Initial On-Site with 5 days a week)
Place of Performance: Columbia, SC.
Position overview:
Paralegal III will provide direct litigation and legal administrative support. Responsibilities include organizing case files, managing discovery, conducting legal research, preparing evidence and exhibits for hearings and trials, and maintaining detailed tracking records to ensure all tasks meet performance and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct assistance to Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) in preparing cases for court, including drafting, editing, and finalizing legal documents and correspondence.
- Compile, organize, and maintain case files, evidence, and exhibits.
- Prepare and organize trial notebooks, jury instructions, and trial exhibits.
- Review, analyze, and summarize discovery materials and evidence, including electronic files.
- Assist with preparing subpoenas, witness binders, and related documentation.
- Conduct legal research using online databases and prepare written summaries or reports.
- Assist in scheduling witness interviews, coordinating meetings, and maintaining contact with victims and witnesses.
- Maintain accurate and complete tracking systems for cases, evidence, and discovery.
- Scan, copy, and organize legal documents and records in physical and electronic formats.
- Assist with the management and presentation of electronic evidence during trial proceedings.
- Communicate professionally with AUSAs, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ paralegal experience, including direct support of complex litigation and trial preparation tasks.
- Demonstrated experience in reviewing, analyzing, and organizing large volumes of case files, evidence, and discovery materials.
- Experience drafting, editing, and managing legal documents and correspondence in a federal or comparable legal environment.
- Proven ability to conduct legal research using online databases and provide clear, accurate written summaries.
- Prior experience coordinating with attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Must have successfully supported similar paralegal assignments for a federal agency or comparable client.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience providing paralegal support to federal legal offices.
- Familiarity with DOJ policies, court procedures, and litigation support software.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and e-discovery platforms.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills when working with AUSAs, court staff, and law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to adapt to evolving case requirements and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Educational Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher, plus three (3) years of paralegal experience.
- Paralegal Certificate, plus three (3) years of paralegal experience.
- Five (5) years of directly relevant paralegal work experience in lieu of a degree or certificate.
