TITLE: Preschool Assistant- Part time (Potential for full time employment)

DEFINITION: To assist teachers in a preschool setting in supervising, providing natural and structured learning experiences for children of various backgrounds in the city of Sacramento.

DUTIES- MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Supervision of children indoors and outdoors

• Assisting the teacher in planning and preparing learning experiences

• Snack/ meal prep and clean up.

• General classroom clean up/ toy sanitation/ decorating

• Changing diapers/ potting training

• School pickups/ Drop offs ( valid License required)

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE OF

• Child Development and Early Childhood Education Guidance Techniques

• Best practice in ECE

• Developmentally Appropriate practice and materials for young children

ABILITY TO

Read and write at a level required for successful job performance

Work independently, and as a team

Maintain appropriate and cooperative relationships with children, families and staff

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

• Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel or crouch to communicate at the child’s level

• Lift up to 40lbs

• Frequently lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

• Stand for periods of time

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent AND Current Early Childhood Education or Child Development Student (Proof of enrollment)

OR Assistant Level teaching Permit or permit qualification

OR

• Some ECE units ( Bring unofficial transcripts)

• Experience in an Early education setting

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must be 18 years or older

• PASS a background check: FBI and DOJ (No exemptions will be filed)

• COMPLETE mandated reporting (training) for suspected child abuse

• FOLLOW regulations for California state Licensing including required vaccinations:

• DTAP MMR TB skin test Influenza ( or written decline)

• ASSIST the lead teacher with a program for the class that is in accordance with the policies and philosophy of program.

• COOPERATE with quality improvement programs through the Sacramento County Office of Education and adhere to requirements.

• HELP teacher complete Developmental screenings and assessments

• PARTICIPATE in professional development trainings and courses for ECE (15 hr. min. per year)

• BECOME CPR certified (pediatric and first aid)

**** Tuition reimbursement MAY be available for ECE related coursework and materials.
