    Job Description

    About Us: We are an independent insurance agency which fosters a supportive and family-friendly environment. While located in beautiful Bellingham we market to all of Northwest Washington. Our agency is licensed in multiple states and maintains national contracts with carriers.

    Our slogan, "Walking with you through life," reflects our focus on building long-lasting relationships with our clients. We strive to provide high-level personal service to our clients.

    This position is currently part-time, 3 days a week, but it has potential to become full-time. This opportunity also offers the potential to become a full-time agent if desired.

    AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE THE EXPERIENCE IN AND/OR ABILITY TO LEARN THE FOLLOWING SKILL SETS:

    • Administrative Assistant
    • Bookkeeping / Agency Management System (AMS) data entry
    • Customer Service
    • Insurance Consultation (requires insurance license)

    IMPORTANT: Further details of each role is listed below. An applicant must be experienced in at least three of the four skill sets and be confident in his/her ability to learn quickly. If not licensed already, applicants must be willing to obtain one or more insurance license(s) within the first 90 days. Training and/or compensation will be provided. This could be your opportunity to learn a new industry!

    REQUIRED QUALITIES AND TRAITS:

    • Fluent English, spelling and grammar. Bilingual ability is an asset but not required.

    ADMINISTRATIVE:

    • Answer the phone. Make outreach calls to clients. Respond to voicemails and e-mails
    • Work independently
    • Fluent in Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Mailing policies, monthly birthday cards or outreach literature to clients or prospective clients2

    BOOKKEEPING / AGENCY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (AMS):

    • Must be tech savvy
    • Assist bookkeeper with reconciling data in AMS
    • Update and maintain accuracy of the AMS
    • Enter or import commissions received from all carriers and/or marketing organizations
    • Compare commission statements with sales reports to ensure integrity
    • Experience with QuickBooks and/or AMS/CRM is an asset

    CUSTOMER SERVICE:

    • Represent the agency in a professional, service-oriented manner at all times.
    • Assist clients with scheduling appointments
    • Greeting clients in the office (most customer service currently takes place by phone/e-mail)
    • Assist clients with in submitting and processing claims
    • Make basic policy changes

    INSURANCE: (APPLICANTS WITH PRIOR EXPERIENCE AND/OR LICENSING WILL BE PREFERRED)

    • Obtain license within 90 days of hire (Life and Disability and/or Property and Casualty licenses)
    • Assist clients with plan comparisons, applications or electronic enrollments
    • Contact insurance carriers' agency support to assist with client accounts and/or solve insurance revenue issues
    • Pass annual carrier training and certifications
