SENIOR CLOUD SYSTEMS ENGINEER

THE ROLE

• The Cloud Systems Engineer, Content Solutions is a member of Global Technology & Operations (GT&O) group, with a focus on media operations and content supply chain.

• The Content Solutions team finds and builds new technology solutions that allow to adapt in a rapidly changing media industry.

• You will help develop and manage the platform leveraged by development teams to deliver software to the cloud.

• You will support the development organization to speed time to market by providing a platform to enable continuous integration, test automation, continuous delivery and automated provisioning of the full tech stack required for applications and services.

• You will help manage AWS accounts and on-board new AWS services needed by the development organization.

• You will facilitate implementation of new technologies such as Docker/Kubernetes by integrating them into the automation platform to enable developer self-service.

• He/she is an effective communicator who can clearly express complex ideas both verbally and in writing. He/she is a capable team player who develops and maintains effective partnerships with other groups both inside and outside of GT&O and Discovery.

• The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding DevOps software development practices as well as in depth knowledge of AWS.

• Ideally the candidate will have experience with building and configuring VPC's and all of the core AWS services needed to support web apps and services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and build tools and frameworks that support deploying and managing our platforms
• Design, build, and deliver cloud computing solutions, hosted services, and underlying software infrastructure.
• Foster collaboration with software product development, architecture, and IT teams to ensure releases are delivered with repeatable and auditable processes.
• Support and troubleshoot scalability, high availability, performance, monitoring, backup and restores of different environments.
• Work independently across multiple platforms and applications to understand dependencies.
• Design and architect solutions for existing client facing applications as they are moved into cloud environments such as AWS.
• Qualifications
• Bachelors degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a Systems Engineering related field.
• Strong background in networking, both on premise and in the cloud (experience with Route 53 is a plus)
• Understanding of large file storage management systems (S3 and Isilon)
• Experience with relational DBMS, specifically as a database administrator.
• Good understanding of Cloud security management on the AWS platform
• Experience installing, upgrading, managing and deploying apps/services to TomCat, JBoss and SpringBoot
• A minimum of 5 years' experience with cloud-based provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and related DevOps technologies.
• Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Terraform or an equivalent
• Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services (experience with AWS is required)
• Strong experience with SQL and MySQL (NoSQL experience is a plus, too)
• A working understanding of code and script (Python)
• Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
• Experience in delivering and managing web or cloud-based services.
• Experience SCM tools such as Git, GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.
• Experience with test automation tools like Cucumber, Junit, Selenium, Fitness, etc.
• Database administration for oracle, oracle app server ( pilat ), postgres, neo4j clusters, mysql, mysql replication, elastic search clusters
