The transportation dispatcher oversees the coordination of freight movement across multiple lanes, ensuring efficient routing and on-time delivery. This role requires strong decision-making skills, real-time problem solving, and the ability to communicate clearly with drivers, customers, and internal departments.
Primary Duties
- Plan, schedule, and dispatch drivers for inbound and outbound freight.
- Monitor driver locations, hours of service, and equipment availability.
- Optimize loads to maximize efficiency and reduce empty miles.
- Communicate load details, special instructions, and schedule changes to drivers.
- Update transportation management systems with accurate load status and documentation.
- Respond to unexpected issues such as delays, breakdowns, or customer changes.
- Coordinate with customer service to ensure accurate delivery information and resolve concerns.
- Support safety initiatives by reinforcing compliance and reporting incidents.
