  • Responsibilities

    The Research Administrator is responsible for coordinating the fiscal management of major federal and non-federal sponsored project awards. They serve as the focal point between the sponsoring agency and the Principal Investigator and Department Administrator in the fiscal administration and management of grants and contracts.

     

    MAJOR DUTIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

    • Review fiscal aspects of account set-up, keeping abreast with a myriad of constantly evolving federal regulations.
    • Monitor fiscal performance on awards, initiate grant closeout processes, and prepare final financial reports of expenditures.
    • Assist and instruct Principal Investigators and their staff in grant management procedures.
    • Resolve expenditure problems and assist Cash Management team as needed with billing and collections.
    • Perform a variety of analytical and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with accounting principles, sponsor requirements, federal and state guidelines, and University policies.
    • Review and approval or rejection as appropriate of sub-award invoices. Follow up with Principal Investigators and Departmental Administrators on delinquent sub-award invoices. Work with the Compliance Team to review and resolve subaward invoices that do not contain full and/or accurate detail or questionable expenses.
    • Review and approval or rejection as appropriate of cost transfers including: faculty/staff salary cost transfers; student salary cost transfers and non-salary cost transfers. This includes working with Effort to review of PARs (Personnel Activity Reports) to ensure that effort is appropriately certified.
    • Work closely with Sponsored Programs colleagues to resolve issues with awards and sub-awards.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • B.A./B.S., and three to five years of related experience.

    • Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO/president and members of the executive management team
    • Managing the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting
    • Oversee the interim and yearly external audit, review and analyze results and recommend for approval the audited financial statements.
